Lake Erie Water Quality and the Western Basin

Lake Erie is one of North America's most important freshwater resources, supporting communities, wildlife, fisheries, recreation, agriculture, and drinking-water systems. Because the lake is relatively shallow, changes in nutrient inputs, temperature, rainfall, and river discharge can have significant effects on its ecosystem.
